Teaching in Korea: workshops at SungDuk University
Although we had plenty of interesting discussions at SungDuk College University, a good part of our work together did not need translation for words were unnecessary.
During our hands-on workshops, university students joyfully engaged in artistic explorations. Playing with materials individually and in groups, they were guided by previously discussed ideas scaffolding ways of how to use the materials, but free to explore and decide what to do with them.
We discussed connections to curriculum and to the artistic development of children, and talked about strategies and advantages of bringing art materials and approaches to the classroom.
By the end of the day we found ourselves in a room wonderfully filled with the tangible results of our explorations laid out on the floor around us. It was a beautiful site to be seen.
